Men In High Heels...it's Coming?

Shafted

Well put! I wear heels because they seem to be my go-to footwear of choice. Just like guys love hitop sneakers. No different. There is no gender involved in my footwear. I just like them. Just like women like them. Designers would love to design heels for men, just as long as they can profit from it. I would only hope that they design sexy looking shoes that they design for women. If it doesn't happen then I'm happy buying womens shoes, they have the wide selection of sizes, colour, different heel shapes and sizes. Getting back on topic. Guys just have to get out and let people see them in heels. Also the media has to show regular guys in heels. Tastefully. Not really gay men, because being gay is your sexual preference, not the clothes you wear. Every chatroom will say you are gay for wearing heels. What I am trying to say is: you don't have to look like a drag queen to strut in heels. But I do think heels go better with more femimine cut clothes. Just like 70s platforms goes with bellbottoms and flashy shirts. One thing can't survive without the other. Wear what makes you comfortable. I wear my highheel boots everyday, sometimes under pants, and sometimes over them. But don't wear anything less than 4.5" heels. My boots are just a joy to wear. I like the long leg look, the strut and the sway of the hips. There are a ton of women who love guys in heels. One woman on the subway said: its nice to see a guy not wearing ugly running shoes.

Thanks for posting, Shafted. It seems to be a real positive for men to wear heels on the fashion stage and an encouraging boost to each of the longing be open male heelers. For those who are already publicly heeling, then it is just more bits of wonderful news in the overall life experience. I also share the concerns of HappyinHeels that we need to be more vigilant about our own male heeling in public to support this developing fad to become a full pledged fashion option. Now that the idea of men in heels is more in the minds of the public conscientiousness than ever in recent history, it would be fitting sights for the public to witness men wearing heels first hand. Each initial heeling may not be of much note, but when they are combined with other influences, they will let everyone know the sightings were part of the in style fashion and not just isolated encounters.

Did anyone hear the rap Kanye West got for wearing a women's Celine Top? It's exposure in the media peaked the day after and bell curve flattened out within about a week thereafter. The point is that an act by a music industry celebrity with massive influence in the fashion industry did not result in many acts by the critical mass public. While Kanye is not an athlete, he does have influence like an athlete. I wonder if Kanye's influence wasn't limited in scope much like Kazakys' influence among the public in Ukraine and surrounding countries was limited in scope (but effective). This again goes back to the IDEA of men in heels taking on larger proportions than the REALITY of men in heels, even with the backing of celebrity game changers. The reality may not even be an idea that the public thinks of as a group effort. Rather the reality is more likely how history is already working itself out through the likes of JeffB, Shafted, and Firefox. Just a guy in their local circle who happens to wear heels without it being attached to a larger group movement. And since we already have that, why not be content and thankful for what the world has already given us?

Prince appears to be the only male celebrity who can wear high heels and not cause any controversy. He's been wearing heels since the 80s and doesn't bother anyone. And he wears STILETTO ankle boots much of the time.

I think he gets away with it because he doesn't cause any problems socially. What I mean is that he's not in the tabloids like all the other idoits. He also doesn't care what others think. Does anybody here have the guts to perform in 4" heels at the superbowl halftime show? If you can, then you can wear anything and not get harassed. He also doesn't do it for attention, he does it because he's really short. Around 5"3". Now I'm 5'10". Is it really necessary for me to wear 5 and 6" heels. Not really but I like the attention. I would love to be in the tabloids. Give all of us some exposure. Them people can see its a normal thing. But those old, grumpy people sitting on the benches at the mall will still hate us. Screw thoes bitches!

Actually only partially true when used as an adverb. As a noun, it is merely how we dress ourselves. In-fashion, out-of -fashon, do I dare say alternative fashion? It's all fashion. Fashion as a noun doesn't have to be popular. Fashion trends sometimes start from just a few peeps.

Yes, it starts with a few people but still has to be a trend, in any sense of the word. Even alternatve fashion has to be a trend otherwise it's just someone freestyling!

You hit the nail on the head. Prince is actually TALENTED! What I would give to have HALF of his skills at composing! Kanye? Hes an absolute dirt ball that has done more harm to people only to prosper from it.

What if someone like Michael Jordan came out in a pair of heels?

I'm sure will have more male heels in the coming years. The metro fashion guys will be wearing them and it will catch on

I'm kinda hopeing so - - - - because there are very few rural guys that will.

Well...... Glad to see articles in the media that address guys wearing heels, BUT - I have yet to see another guy in heels, or women's shoes - ever. Out here in CA I guess I am the only guys who wears heels in public. It would be good to have at least a few other guys around here who would wear heels in public. It's lonely out here!!!! ha ha... Take care all, sf

It hasn't been that long ago that the only males wearing heels were female impersonators, men in dresses or skirts and blouses, and those in the process of male to female reassignments. Now, men in heels has been seen in fashion shows and more people have become aware that the everyday, home grown males wear them. Even the internet has been somewhat more favorable to such happenings, depending on the site. Changes may be slow, but they're happening. You and I didn't wait to enjoy the experiences in public.

I actually saw a guy wearing a camouflage tee shirt with a camouflage skirt walking on the sidewalk of a busy street outside an ice cream parlor where I was sitting with my wife. It didn't even get a raised eye brow out of me. I thought maybe I hadn't actually seen it until two opposite direction walkers turnd back to look after they passed him.

Life is short...  Wear the bleeping shoes!

If the camo were effective, NOBODY would have seen him! LOL

I guess he should have used urban camouflage patterns then instead of woodland.  :wink1:

I don't think men in heels will take off for several reasons. Firstly high heels to most men are a sexual thing. It's something they like to see on women. Which is why porn stars/strippers wear heels. Which is why most men who wear heels do so because to them its a sexual fetish. I'm honest enough to admit that the same applies to me as well.

Secondly fads come and go. I remember a time in the 90's when men in drag became reasonably fashionable in the Netherlands after a famous writer came out as a crossdresser. For a while more men came out as crossdressers and then the fad faded away again. I suspect in no small part helped by a glut of gay crossdressers cementing the idea in most peoples minds that it is a gay thing. Some people have mentioned the metro style but that has mostly come and gone as well. And I think it only seemed to have worked for certain people who were famous footballers/celebs. Your average joe, not as much.

Thirdly, ladies like their high heels too much to want to share them with us. I can't open a fashion mag with at least one article about women and their heels. Since women dominate the fashion industry and are its main customers they're NEVER going to promote men in heels.

That's another thing I have never seen in public. Not even a utilikilt.

Yeah but you live out in the sticks. We don't even know which country you live in.

Chorlini,

Nobody can predict the future. You might be right, but maybe not. And then it all depends on what you mean by high heels. Do you mean very femme shoes with stiletto heels and flowers, lace or lots of bling, or do you mean something more subdued, like wedge sandals or platform loafers with block heels? I can see the latter coming back into style for men. It's been a while, but fashions go in cycles. Stiletto pumps for men may not happen, but stiletto boots - might be. Never say never.

Regardless, like many others here, I'm not waiting until high heels for men are "accepted" by society and become commonplace. I'm going out now, having fun in heels that I'm comfortable wearing and, more importantly, that my wife is comfortable with me wearing, and enjoy strutting my stuff. If others don't like it, too bad. I don't care for some of the stuff they wear either, but I'll be polite and withhold comments and judgment. I hope they do the same. If I get compliments on my choice (or my confidence), great, but that's not my objective.

You only go through this life once, and if you don't make the most of it, you can't go back and replay the video a different way. Nobody ever said on his death bed, "Gee, I wish I didn't wear heels out so much!"
