candid 70s platforms

This picture was recently published in a major German newspaper, showing immigrants in West Germany in the 1970s waiting at a tax office. Note the shoes of the lady to the left who seems to work at that office. These look like patent platform shoes with a chunky 4" heel. Pretty cool to see sth like that on the front page of a newspaper of 2008.
