Does anyone else share my love of stockings and heels? They were all the rage in the 50's of course. What's your fav type of shoe with seamed stockings? Did you know that seamed stockings give a slimming effect to the ankle? Why I wonder do they not market them nowadays when all the ladies are wanting to look slimmer? Just a thought...

I recently bought two pairs of original seamed stockings, just out of curriousity.
I must say they are quite something special. You have to be very carefull with them though, if you don't have very soft hands you can easily rip them while putting them on or off.
Ah well, I guess that's why they are made for women only.

Yes I think I would have problems with those FF stockings, not that thet would look good on me or there would be much point me wearing them as I wear trousers. However, I can see the attraction if you wear skirts and are careful. I was facinated reading your site about them, Debbie.

Glad that you like my site Firefox, thanks! I must get around to doing some more for it sometime soon.

One tip - when handling stockings, always put on a pair of cotton gloves to prevent damaging the nylons. Stops snagging from nails and jewelley etc. Bodyshop sell some good ones for a reasonable price.

Re Stockings..

I remember in Paris a few years ago, seeing a well dressed woman wearing a pair of stockings, nothing unusual except the seams ran up the front of her legs! Different, but then at least she could check the seams OK.

Very odd that one, maybe she had them on back to front? Not sure how the foot would look as the fitted heel would be in the wrong place.

Does anyone know why they had the seam in the first place. Was that manufacturing thing or a concsious fashion decison. If the latter, which I suspect, I'm very suprised that seamed or patterned hose aren't more popular in the present day. They will help to make the line more attractive and aesthetically pleasing on women with less than "ideal" legs. Surely that's a laudible aim in in all fashion priniples?

Quite simply a seam is required in fully fashioned stockings as that is what finished the stocking off. If there was no seam the stocking would fall apart. Check out my page on FF stockings at my site for a more detailed explanation

One thing which has struck me recently is the number of women wearing trousers. It seems as though there would be little enough market for tights let alone real stockings. I wonder if the times around the war years and after will ever return, or if the stocking weraring in those times was a unique product of the new technology and social climate prevailing, which is never to be repeated.

Yes Firefox, I've noticed that too. Why do women do that? Do they really want to look like men?
