Hi...
well actually there is a deep difference in the reasons why one dresses as a woman.
That is the diffrence that passes between a transgender, a crossdresser a drag queen and a transnexual.
I think that alt-f confused the drags with transexuals. While the first ones try to exagerate the feminine side just like a theatrical act, even if they consider themselves males, transsexuals consider their inner self feminine, and so the gratest challenge is full integration.

Valeria

PS these are my impressions i'm always opened to the dialogue!!!!!!!!

It's a matter of definition.

Transgendered: Anyone who is moving from one gender or another whether this is permanent or temporary.

Transsexual: One who is changing sex and seeking gender reasignment therapy.

Transvestite: One who dresses as a member of the opposite sex with the aim of being mistaken for a member of that sex.

Drag Queen: A man (usually but not always gay) who dresses in a manner that parodies the female sex.

Drag King: A woman (usually but not always a lesbian) who dresses in order to parody the male sex.

According to these definitions, TVs, CDs, DQs, DKs and, pre and post-op TSs are transgendered.

Actually that isn't true.

Transexuality is a recognised medical condition and is often linked to a genetic anomally, XYX chromosones in the case of MtoF and very occassionally a "male" with XX chromosones. FtoMs usually have XXY chromosones or (rarely) are "females" with XY sets. Many TSs though have a purely psychological condition.

Transvestites are often motivated by the desire to wear certain clothing and it has nothing to do with sexual intercourse of any description and is more like free-styling. Some people wear certain items whilst having sex, this is called a fetish and is not considered deviant.

Drag Queens/Kings usually dress for entertainment purposes only.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Re: Important question

Slightly offended here...

I am Gender Dysphoric- which I have no choice over- I wouldn't consider it deviant or sexual, its just who I am...

I'm not a drag artist nor do I get a sexual kick out of dressing as a woman. Unlike SOME transvestites, most Transexual Gender Dysphoric folks are people who are unhappy with who they are- some take it to the Nth degree and have a sex change some don't.

As somone said once "find out where on the rainbow you sit and just be happy being there"

Rant over

Susan

I agree completely except that the SOME transvestites you refer to are merely fetishists and are not genuine TVs.

Judging from what members of this forum post here, it must be true that attitudes are extremely difficult to change (otherwise why would males that wear high heels in public be so acutely conscious of public reaction to their appearing outside of their "private spaces" wearing "women's" shoes or clothing?) When trying to explain why there're dressed thusly, how many questioners are genuinely interested in long, drawn out explanations based on the latest psychological writings, that their practice really isn't "abnormal, dysfunctional and/or devient sexual behavior? Sorry, but it's still isn't considered "normal" by 98% of the general public. The only reason people don't react more overtly is because they're to politically correct to say anything -- regardless of what they really think. Sorry, but while I'm on your side in this struggle, this is the "way it is moving west."
