Got a college nearby with a fine arts department?? Take a stage makeup class--it is alot of fun, you learn alot, and the other students (not to mention the instructor) by the very fact that they are in such a class (and are likely theatre majors themselves) are a VERY open-minded lot, even if they're straight (which perhaps 1/2 of them probably are). I speak from experience here, BTW.

Haven't seen any comments from Emma, yet. Wonder what she would say to this advice?

Excellent advise from all here for our young friend, Silver. When I started years ago, we didn't have the luxury of knowing another crossdresser to get advise from and certainly there was no internet in which to look up information. Cheers---

Colour doesn't tend to matter that much as long as you don't mix gold and silver at the same time.

I wear more silver than gold, but that's just that I happen to like silvery colours more than gold, but that's just personal taste...

And pick subtle things rather than big. A good start would be a nice simple small pair of studs - zirconium is fine...

Go for good quality metals; cheap jewellery just isn't worth it. A couple of quid would get you something will actually tarnish, when for a couple of quid more you can get sterling silver which won't. And you'll have less risk of having allergic reactions to it.

Don't overwear jewellery. A couple of co-ordinated peices will look far better than a half ton of cheap and nasty "bling" will. Jewellery is supposed to be an accent not a feature...

On my progress:

I decided to start shaving, and started with my arm pit hair. Bad, sore idea. I used an electric razor which left spike like hairs behind. I'm guessing using a proper razor would be a better idea. Any tips on this?

Katie:-)

I see that you have belonged to the Forum since April 2003 with only a few posts. You should post more often to allow all of us to get to know you and to be able to help answer any questions you may have as we are doing with Silver. That was excellent advise on jewelry that you gave Silver and I'm sure it can help others as well.

Silver:-)

The very first time you shave will be a bit of a problem if it is a part of your body that hadn't been shaved before. Once you get the heavy hair off it will be a lot easier to maintain from there on. Just a frequent light shave will do once in a while. Some people are a bit heavier in the hair department than others which will determine how often you must shave.

I use a Norelco electic shaver and I don't put any lotion on first. I just shave dry. The only spots I shave are my legs clear to the crouch and my chest. I aways wear long sleeve dresses or blouses which covers my arm hair and I don't have to shave under my arms. A tough spot is behind the knees and a little aftershave lotion usually takes care of that in case you get a bit aggressive there. What works for me may not work for you, but I hope this information will give you some ideas for shaving. Cheers---

I've got dark, coarse hair and light, sensitive skin, which can suck at times. I shave my armpits regularly, cause I always hated it when deodorant would clump up in the hairs. Ewww. The first time I did it it was very sore and prickly, but now I have few problems. I use a standard twin blade razor, as I have found that on my neck, a triple blade razor will often cut the hairs too close, causing ingrowns all over the place.

Thanks guys. It does feel alot better now and I will give it another shave. Because it's summer here, I won't shave my legs just yet, I don't want to look funny around the pool.
