If you dont want something shown in public then dont offer it to the world in the first place.
I could turn it around and ask what's the big deal about letting people have control over their own photos ?

Its only due to the messages themselves not being editable after 24 hours. If you want images removed, just ask any of us and we will always oblige, as long as it doesnt cause a thread to make no sense afterwards.

Were no ogres... but we do want things to remain as in-tact as possible, as JMC pointed out, look back over threads that are really old where the images were linked to and they gone missing now and the threads dont make any sense at all now.

I can confirm that. It's a shame some important threads have rather lost their meaning because of lost images.

If you are going to use external storage, I'd say be careful of what sites you use. Use established names which have been proven to be stable. Two that I can think of are flickr and Image shack. And, always observe the linking terms of the host.

Regarding images, I have a question: Is it possible to add a line in the profile section that a member could click on to "find all images posted" by (a member)? Somewhat similiar to the line that says: "find all posts by"? Quite frequently I would like to find an image that a member has posted several weeks (months) back and it's difficult to sort through all of their postings inorder to find the image of interest.

I see that no one has posted to this on a while. If I can figure out how to take some pics. with my phone and post them here I will give it a try. I'd rather post here than some other server. So I vote Yes. I have gotten much better @ walking in my bboots and If I can get out of the stone age with this computer stuff I'll post some pics of me in my bboots.
Thanks for the option. Richie.

I agree with posting directly to this site. I have pictures on Flicker - but there are some I do not want to share:) If I were to post from Flicker - does that allow anyone opening the picture to see all the other pictures on Flicker??

I don't have direct experience with Flickr but I have used Photobucket. Photobucket has a a feature whereby you can make certain pictures private, protected by a password. Anybody with the password can get to them but the world at large cannot. Basically you set up subdirectories in your account and you can password-protect some or all of them as you wish. You can still link out to pictures in password-protected directories but nobody can browse the folder without the password.

Flickr may have the same functionality.

I have wanted to share pictures with the members of this website, but I have had so many problems. If this will make it easier, that's great.
