My Mood: Rep Power: 22 | Re: Image attachments instead of embedding? Let's do it -- in five years our old threads will still be intact. Just look at the five-year-old threads we have now -- there's a lot of discussion about images that no longer exist. It's like hearing only one side of a phone conversation!

My Mood: Rep Power: 24 | Re: Image attachments instead of embedding? okey dokey, well it seems that so far no objections to switching off image linking and only allowing image attachments, so I'll gradually get each forum in turn adjusted.
If members want to post images from now on then please use the "Message attachments" button found when making your posts.
This button can be found in the "advanced view" of the message posting editor, and some members may need to adjust their default message posting options in "User CP" to show this by default.
Thank you to the members who took the time to offer any input |

I have accounts at flickr which are very good for hosting (multiple uploads etc), but I can see the attraction of hosting the odd photo here, especially for members with no other hosting facitlity and also on the interest of keeping links intact. |

My Mood: Rep Power: 13 | Re: Image attachments instead of embedding? I use photobucket, so personally I don't use the feature. I already have to resize all my pictures (the smallest size my camera takes is absurd four digits by slightly more tolerable four digits) so it's nothing to take a few seconds and upload a picture to a gallery where I can use it where I'd like.
I do like the idea of having it there as an option, just in case.

My Mood: Rep Power: 5 | Re: Image attachments instead of embedding? HiRichie,
Go for the attachments of pictures.
I would say go for it. I think it makes it much easier and also it will be easier to keep it tidy. Also if a member wants to remove the picture it makes it easier if you let them do it.

My Mood: Rep Power: 11 | Re: Image attachments instead of embedding? Richie,
Although I said yes before, I didn't realise you would switch off the extrnal site linking facility. Whilst the idea of you hosting the pics is great and is working well, sometimes, as in my latest post in "For Everyone" my pics will appear at the bottom of the page as Thumbs and not in the position of the text where I am discussing the picture. This is a downside of the embedded picture system. Can we not have both facilities available?
My two pennyworth.

My Mood: Rep Power: 22 | Re: Image attachments instead of embedding? The preferred method for posting pictures is now to attach them directly to your postings. You can still link to image files hosted on an external server and that technique is outlined elsewhere.
To attach an image to a posting, do the following:
In the editor, as you are writing your post, click the "Go Advanced" button. (If you do not have a "Go Advanced" button, you will have to adjust your control panel settings -- you need the "Enhanced" or "WYSIWIG" editor option.) The "Advanced Editor" window will open.
Scroll down the page and look for a box titled "Additional Options". There will be a "Manage Attachments" button inside this box. Click this button.
"Manage Attachments" will bring up a popup window. (You will need to un-block popups in your browser settings.)
If the image(s) you wish to attach are resident on your computer, use the "Browse" buttons in the "Upload File from your Computer" box to locate the file(s), one-by-one. You can attach as many as five images to a single posting. When you have the filenames loaded in the boxes, click "Upload" to send them to HHplace. You can save download and upload time if the pictures are already hosted on a server, in that case use "Upload file from a URL" to specify the URL's of the image files. Please be aware that there is a maximum filesize that the HHplace server will accept, this is 300K. There is a thread on re-sizing pictures in the "Technical Support" forum.
Uploading may take a bit of time depending on your connection speed. Once your files are uploaded, click "Close this window" to close out the popup.
At this point you may click the "Preview Post" button to see how your posting will look and if all is well, click "Submit" to make it live.

Everything you post on the internet is public, and is also archived by god knows how many other websites such as archive.org and google, so even if it was gone from here, other places still have a record of it.
If you dont want something shown in public then dont offer it to the world in the first place. |
