Default [Query] explanation for the PM system

I've just realised that the 'outbox' actually stores messages in some limbo until they are read.

If they are not read, they remain in your outbox. When the recipient reads them, they disappear from your outbox. In essence, this is a good idea.

The confusion for me arose when I looked in my outbox after composing new messages and then tried to find some sort of 'send messages now' button. I assumed the act of logging off would send the messages, so I logged off and logged back in again. Guess what, the messages were still there. Without any explanation, I thought the messages had not gone.

Funny you should say that....The penny just dropped for me as well.Had the same delema, it wasn't 'till the message was read that it went from "outbox" to "sent".

Perhaps we're not the sharpest knives in the draw after all...

Don't worry about it Jim,

Well spotted. There's 12 I've sent in the past year and six months still waiting to be read, but some of those are fairly recent. The fact that I've sent 100's and got on quite well without knowing, is some indication of how essential this feature is, but I'll probably be using it now that I know.

I hadn't noticed that feature, but then again, I don't send many private messages. I guess it's because i have an email attached, that it's easier to email. Plus, there are some places where I can use hotmail where I wouldn't like to be using hhplace, just in case there's people watching.

It's an interesting one tho', from a database point of view I can kind of see why it would work like that, and it's a handy feature.

Whatever you don't transfer any of your messages to the "Savebox" which is supposedly the "Stored Messages" folder.

There is no way to access them ever again once they go in there.

Was that a misnamed "Delete" button, as it sure feels like it.

That sounds like another bug to me. I wonder if the new phpbb does that too?

I have just found out that I can now access my saved PMs box.
It was only 560% full so I think that was why I couldnt access it when this thread was first started.
I have deleted it all so now it is empty.
