Default Editing Posts. More time needed.

Can we have more time for editing posts without "last edited by" appearing underneath. Like 10 minutes to do typos and missing words. I added a missing word recently, it must have only been about 90 secs after posting but it still said "last edited by" underneath. It's annoying because it looks like I had second thoughts on posting something. It never happens with me, it's always spelling and typos.

Okay, seconded?

I can look through my (usually long) posts and pick up spelling and grammar errors, but I seemingly always find additional problems when the post "goes to print".

Giving a 120 second window before the 'Edited' remark kicks in, would seem to be useful? Even spell-checking doesn't always work, because it can't check for the wrong word used, (ie. they're - their - there) and the grammar checker throws up too many spurious mistakes too.

Guys, this has been requested for some time now and I think we just have a limitation of the software here.

If something can be changed it will be.

thanks for all of your concerns.

Nigel.

In the big scheme of all things important in life, does it really honestly make ANY difference at all if it actually says you have edited a post or not?

So what if you have corrected your spellings, added a word here and there.

Sorry guys, I really dont see why this is even an issue?

If I'm wrong then by all means tell me, but I just dont see why that little tiny message "last edited by" makes any difference at all to the actual message you have posted.

Why would people think you had second thoughts?

So what if you actually did.. Its ok to change your mind... Isnt that what people do everyday, tell others they have changed their mind, or need to correct something?

Okay, you're wrong. <levity - not disrespect>

Whenever a post is marked as 'edited', a reader may well want to know why, and it's an understandable question. [If the query didn't occur, probably the "Reason Box" provided by default wouldn't be there.]

Not everyone completes the Reason Box, and it can create the feeling that perhaps something unpleasant has been removed. After all, most 'edits' are made by the Admin team as posts are locked after 24 hours.

If the change involves some cost, I guess everyone here will understand the implication of the change request, and the request ends here. [Although a cost of £20/$40 could be met by a personal donation from yours truly, as I'm not adverse to helping with site costs.]

But several here, myself included, may well be labouring under the delusion it only requires a number change in an option box. [If anyone is unsure, I can ask on one of the other boards I'm a member of, that uses this software.] In that circumstance, I guess we'd ask, "why not change the number in the box", since a number of members have asked for it?

Actually, 90% of edits are made by the users themselves, not us.
Its actually pretty rare that we ever have to step in and edit anything, but when WE do it, we always leave the reason why, so there is no doubt why it was edited.

It is just a number in a box though. but your welcome to donate to the new server were now on

And I have to say, it's a very commendable procedure too.

You bought a server, or leased time on it? Either way, I'm happy to donate the £20/$40 toward the upkeep of the Forum. A worthy cause IMO, though a fairly selfish one for me. I'm sure others would be happy to make small donations too. This forum has brought peace of mind to many members I'm equally sure, had previously led a solitary 'heeling' life before finding/joining HHplace.org.

If you have a PayPal account to send the money to, or Bank Account? I'm not sure how to proceed, but the (small) offer of help is genuine.

Freddy

Its very kind, but I'm not "asking" for money. I own the company that owns the server (Web hosting company) and our previous server was ok, but hhplace put a fair bit of load on the server, so in order to accomodate both our own website, plus this website, we had to switch the server.

See the announcement forum, its all there what I've been doing.
Thats why we have the google ad's on the website, every little helps.

anyway, back to subject in hand...
