I haven't tried to test this but I've a suspicion that the "edited" comment only shows if either:

A: A moderator makes an edit
B: If somebody has viewed the original post before the edit was made.

If you edit it before anyone else has viewed the post then I think the "edited" comment doesn't appear.

PS: Edit tried a few seconds after original post.
PPS: "Edited" comment did not appear which sort of confirms my thoughts.

You have 'tested' the function after the change has been made.

Previously, (in my experience) any edit after the initial post caused the "Edit" label. As mentioned before, I normally spot the glaring typo after I publish the post. [Despite using Preview and quite often a spell-checker.]

Consequently, quite a high proportion of my posts show the edit label, when in fact I've only corrected spellings, not changed the content of the post.

As you can see from my test above, I was able to make corrections for a minute or two after my inital post, allowing me to tidy up my errors before being read by others.

Yes you can make edits for about 60 seconds after I think, or it may be related to if someone else has posted or viewed. On some other forms I admin, this time is adjustable, on some it isn't.

I can't remember whether it was adjustable here or not. It's not the end of the world, but personally I'd rather be able to edit spelling errors for 10 mins after without "last edited by" underneath.

I didn't expect it would be debated onto a second page! I thought the answer would it can be done, or it can't on this version. I'm quite happy with that I didn't want to start WWIII over it.

I've just tested the function more accurately. No change made.

No matter. No-one died.

This has now been increased from 60 seconds, to 60 minutes.

I've also removed the "minimum characters per post" completely, and made a few other tweaks.

Ummmm.

Just edited a post 20 seconds after posting .... 'edit' remark appeared immediately?

"Minutes" put in wrong box?

Having 'lost' more than one part-drafted post by mistake, I usually prepare mine 'off site' as a Word document and then, after careful checking, paste it into the appropriate pane, adding any necessary embellishments. Then a preview, any further tweaking, press 'submit' and Robert becomes the brother of one's esteemed father.

Too disciplined? Maybe, but it saves heartache when 10 minutes' worth of hard work at the keyboard, not yet finished, just disapp
