Copyrighted images

There are several avitars of Calvin (Calvin and Hobbs by Jim Waterson) that I think are copyrighted images. Watterson has never released the images of Calvin for any use. I suggest those avitar images be removed.

Not knowing who or what "Calvin" is, would you mind pointing them out to me, and where I might be able to find out if they actually are copyrighted because I would then need to contact the website that provided them too.

These are the "canned" avatar images under "UserCP --> Edit Avatar", "Pre-defined Generic Avatars".

"Calvin and Hobbes" is a comic strip that ran in most U.S. newspapers (and it had wide circulation outside the U.S.) from November of 1985 through the end of 1995. There is a Wikipedia entry at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_and_Hobbes as well as a couple of other sites around the Web. Just Google "Calvin and Hobbes". It does appear that the images in question came from the strip but I cannot comment on their copyright status.

I have not seen any HHplace members using these images as avatars.

Ah ok, image file names. ok, well, if we can find any info on the copyright to see if they are protected then I'll obviously take them off instantly.

If it's not reproduced in mass numbers or profited form I don't see how a avatar use violates any copy right laws.
But until I looked at the Avatars under the profiles, if it was form an individual not form here that fine. But since it's form here I would question the source where it came form to see if they have the rights to allow it. I am guessing that they were down loaded form another sight, or if it came with the software for this board then it should state that rights have been obtained
