Heel Pivoting At last, the last of my lip stick and eye liner is applied. I am ready to slip my sun tanned hosed feet and toes that are painted honey moon red into my 2 1/2” heeled classic green soft soled life stride pumps that are from the 80’s. They are so cute on me I might add. I check and readjust my stuffed bra again for one last time. I think, more stuffing maybe? Na, they are cute enough. Grab my black express soft leather purse and put my cig case into it. Can’t forget my Capri cigarettes that are in there leather case. I am in my knee high green skirt and tan blouse as I have the whole day to myself on this chilly Saturday morning. I was heading out for a day around town dressed, perhaps boost my wardrobe with more from Goodwill as I definitely passed today. Down the steps I head as I make my way to the closet for my black soft leather coat that comes thigh high. I find my keys hanging properly in there place on the key rack. I am ready to conquer the world as I depart through the side door to the driveway. Click Clack go my pumps on the driveway pavement. I notice it is a tad brisk this morning as the wind swirls around my skirt. Most would be hitting the unlock button to there door by now or would have started the car from inside the house, but not me as I can’t really justify spending that much money or really can’t afford those expensive model newer cars. Like the clothes I buy from Goodwill, my car should have come from Goodwill. It serves its purpose for me, basic A to B transportation as it is a 1984 oldsmobile 88. The paint is faded and under the hood is a little worn out, by why put a ton of money into something so old, remember A to B for me?? I am not much on car maintenance, get the oil changed and your good to go. For the most part that is true, however, I have been left stranded a couple of times with this car but not enough to buy something newer yet. The cold mornings are always the most difficult on the car and me it seems. The colder it gets, the earlier I leave. My pumps get there workouts on these mornings more times then not unfortunately. I usually have to go through a routine to start the old car on these mornings and occasionally the battery needs a jump from me trying too long to get the worn out motor to start. It is carbureted and can be very difficult and tricky. I begin by pivoting my heel onto the floorboard as the tip of the pump touches the middle part of the pedal ready to begin its routine. As I pump the pedal with my heel pivoting on the floorboard, the pedal makes a very distinct “tap” on the sole of my heels which can be heard over the rrrrrr’s of the motor rolling over. I generally give this method a chance for a couple of tries to start the motor before changing my technique. The next try might consist of me lifting the heel off the floorboard and just letting my leg float in the air as this is a more direct jab at the pedal without any heel pivoting. On occasions where it’s a long struggle, I might just slip the pump off and go barefoot for a while. As you can see, driving an older car definitely puts some wear and tear on my heels. I choose the lower heels to wear as it is easier to pivot my heel in these in order for me to get the best results in starting and driving my car. |
