On Rebecca’s 18th birthday she woke up to find everything she ever wanted, an I-pod, that handbag she hinted about to her mother and a new stereo for her room, she couldn’t have asked for more. Since her birthday landed on a Tuesday she had to wait until Friday to have a real night out so she was saving her energy and retired for bed at around 10:30.
Just as she’d washed up she heard a knock at the door that her father answered. To his confusion there was no one at the door but on the step was a small white box with red ribbon tied around it. The card attached said only “Rebecca.”
He shouted upstairs to her and she came down to see him holding another present. After he explained that it was not from him or her mother she suspected it was from an admirer, as a friend wouldn’t ring the bell and leave.
Once the ribbon was removed she opened the box to find a pair of black patent pumps with a four-inch stiletto heel. Her mother and father seemed a little uneasy but since Rebecca was more of a tomboy and not the high heel wearing type they let it go. She looked at the heels and knew they were lovely but new she could never really wear them as she only wore heels to go to clubs and they were three inch at most. She took them upstairs in their box and went to bed, still a little confused about who had given them to her.
The next few days went by like any other, going to work, coming home, counting down the days till Friday when she could eventually go out to the clubs legally. Friday came and she got all dressed up with her friends and as the taxi pulled up she went under her bed to where her shoes are kept and grabbed a pair of strappy sandals with a three inch block heel. As she slid them on she thought about the pumps, but knew she couldn’t wear them all night so she left wearing her smaller heels.
After a great night and a great weekend with some extra cash from her other relatives she woke up on Monday morning ready for work. She wasn’t really looking forward to going back to the office as her work as a secretary was sometimes a little boring as she was the only person on the front desk and she was alone most of the day. She got dressed in her usual trousers white shirt and her flats then reminded herself that she still had not even tried on those heels she was given.
Removing them from the box she could smell the leather and could see her face in the shine. She slipped off her flats and placed her feet into them and stood up. Her trousers hung perfectly over the top of them, showing just the right amount of heel at the back and not showing just the right amount of skin at the front, after one little wobble on her bedroom carpet she walked into the bathroom and realised that she could walk just fine. After a little thought whilst looking into her full-length mirror she decided to wear them for work, but also took the flats just in case.
After removing the tags from the bottom of the soles she set off for her car for her first day at work in heels.
