Default Knee Injury

Hi Everyone,

As this is my first post. I wish it was a happier one.

I'm a 33 year old male Cross Dresser. I've worn 5" Pumps for years with no difficulty. I could run, jump, dance - anything in them basically!

Last August I had a cycling accident amd suffered a minor tear to my Medial Collateral ligament. I received bad physiotherapy and ended up with crunching and clunking in the knee and my muscles wasted.

Found myself a good physio and have slowly built the muscle back. Knee still crunches a bit and the pain comes and goes. Feel a long way off but a definate improvement.
Unfortunately 6 weeks ago my right knee started playing up too :( It aches and clicks slightly on the outside of the knee

Physio says I've pulled a muscle badly and I'm suffering from muscular tension brought on from anxiety, stress and favouring the "Good Leg" Which is causing the tendon to click. Physio says its nothing to worry about.

I ask the Physio every session if I'll make a recovery and she always says I will make a 100% recovery on both knees. A knee specialist also said I don't have anything major wrong with me and that physio should cure it. I've been referred for a MRI scan just in case. The longer it drags on the less I believe it.

Have any of you had a similar experience? I have a dilema. Do I ask the physio whether I'll be able to wear heels again? Or just keep quiet about it. I'm worried because she'll probably think I'm some sort of sick pervert :( and also the medical profession are very anti heels in general. All I'd probably get is from her is: "Well I wouldn't recommend anyone wears them -They're bad for you etc".

Any help would be greatly appreciated as not being able to wear heels is making me very depressed.

Thanks

My boyfriend has had this problem too - he has dislocated his knee-cap five times in the last 20 or so years - the first time playing rugby - the last falling off 6.5" stripper stilettos and twisting it out of joint. He suffered a clicking in the joint - but it eventually did go away once the muscles were back up to strength and the ligaments and cartilage had healed.

This part - sadly - just takes time and patience. For your type of injury - there is no instant cure.

My (our) advice would be:

1) Glucosomine Tablets to help heal the soft tissue damage

2) Gentle physiotherapy - including swimming

3) DO NOT - under any circumstances - tell the physio you wear heels. Despite the fact that they may be non-judgemental about guys wearing heels - they do NOT recommend stilettos to ANYONE who has injured limb joints or lower back joints.

4) DO NOT wear heels until the injury has been cleared by your Medical Consultants. If you do yourself a mischief with heels - they will be able to tell the difference between heels or a cycling mishap.

Pussyinboots Thank you for you quick reply.

I'm taking Glucosamine, MSM and GMO at the moment. I do light cycling and basic exercises as prescribed by the physio.

Based on your experience do you think I have a chance of making a comeback?

I think you're right about not asking the physio, I'll keep it quiet

Of course!! If you follow their advice - there's no reason why you shouldn't be back up there - teetering and mincing away like a Hero!!

Just make sure it's PROPERLY healed first ( or - should that be, HEELed!!)

About 20 years ago I damaged my anterior cruciate ligament playing football. I could have had surgery to put it right but was advised not too as I did not require perfect knees for my office based job. The knee occasionally gives me pain and clicks and twinges from time to time. Last year I was dancing, not in heels, and I had a sudden painful twinge in my other knee. This has been diagnosed as osteo-arthritis. I took some anti inflammmatory tablets for this but did not get on with them. I could not walk without some pain. In time my knee has improved a lot, I think partly because I have lost 25 pounds in weight. I now get very few twinges from walking or running. Throughout this I have worn heels without any adverse effect and I get no pain from wearing them. Well not in my knee anyway.

Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your help.

You don't know how much your support means to me.

If people with dislocated kneecaps and Cruciate Ligament injuries can do it I'm sure there's a chance for me yet :P

I'm considering paying for an MRI scan rather than waiting 6-12 months on the NHS. If it comes up clear (which it should) it would put my mind at rest.

Physio's original prognosis was March but with the injury to my right knee I think it'll be the summer now.

I'll let you know how things go.

Hi,

I am not a medical profession and not sure if it will help, but I had a co-worker who had some knee problems and he does exercises in a swimming pool. Not sure if that would also help you in you rebuilding process or not?

Best of luck and let us know how it goes!

Scotty

I made a HUGE mess of my knee a few years ago. Spent a couple of years on crutches having it all put back together with a variety of operations, various complications including falling over one day and tearing something in the other knee...

Broke it in 2001, had surgery on one complication in 2002, on another in 2004 and again about a year ago for the same thing which finally fixed it. I was on crutches for 2 years and in physio through to about april last year.

And these days I'm back wearing heels. I have to be sensible about it and so on, but the muscles have all more or less recovered. It takes **AGES** for this to happen. Really. Sorry and all that, but it really does. You just need to give these things time and then exercise.

And don't go messing about early; you'll just tear and pull things that haven't finished healing properly.

Default For Everybody:-)

I have osteo-arthritis in all of my joints eating away at them from the hips and down to my toes. I still wear heels daily so there is hope for you too. Just be patient and follow the doctor's orders and some day you will be back on heels too.
Cheers---
