Default Idea on how to get around expensive shipping costs

I just had a wild idea on how we could get around the crazy shipping costs between Europe/America/Austrailia (and even apparently Canada now).

How about we create a thread (or just use this one) of people taking vacation to other countries? Say if someone was going from USA to England maybe they could carry a few extra pairs of shoes with them:) When they got to England, they could just mail them from there or arrange to meet up with someone who could distribute the shoes. Same if someone from the USA wants a pair from Europe, or elsewhere.

What do you all thing? Maybe not as quick as just mailing it, but it would HAVE to cut down on shipping costs.

What do you all think?

Scotty

I think that you could fall foul of customs. If you turn up with 4 pairs of shoes in various sizes you couldn't claim they were for you and you might get hit with Duty and VAT. Besides, you're only allowed gifts up to a certain value anyway.

Oh well, maybe if not all in different sizes or maybe if you found someone in your size travelling abroad.

How much would customs be anyway to make it all legal. It has to be cheaper than postage costs.

So what you're saying is: I have to wait for someone to go to the USA that has the same shoe size as me and hope they don't get stung by customs.

Sounds a bit "hit and miss" to me.

Besides, if you want the shoe badly enough, then you would be prepared to pay import fees. I have bought Ellie shoes from the USA, and I don't always have to pay duty.
