Default Chunky / wedge heels in US14?

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy (minimum 4.5") heels that are either chunky or wedges, but without a platform? I wear a US women's 14 (although a 15 is often more comfortable), seems like my choice is almost always limited to the more "fetish" sellers with the same line of Please, Ellie etc. I don't want a stiletto, I don't want a platform, I just want something in plain black/brown leather with a chunky, wedge, blade, or otherwise solid 4-5" heel that isn't going to cost me a fortune.

I've seen a few pumps on Fuss, as well as boots on other sites here and there, but they're usually too pricey for me to take a chance on whether or not they'll fit. Suggestions?

As someone also looking .... I think Fuss are it. [But they are 5".]

ASDA [UK supermarket] are or were doing a 4" patent court for £12, but largest size would be UK8 or UK9.

Pleaser (or is it Ellie) do a similar style, and I expect will do your size. But who do you (realistically) expect to make inexpensive shoes in your size? For them to get to be inexpensive, they have to make and sell thousands in your size......

They look the perfect height for me, but I like 5" and up :) I'm just nervous about ordering halfway around the world (I'm in California) without knowing their sizing.

I actually wore those exact shoes on a heelmeet a few years ago in Cambridge (Firefox, Xaphod, and magic brownies IIRC?). Believe it or not, they're too low for me - I'm seriously considering these for everyday wear at work. I think they'll be very comfortable, and I'm probably going to fork out for the two from Fuss as well (especially since they say their sizes run large).

Inexpensive is a relative term. For me $500 is expensive, but even if I consider shoes in that price range I rarely get something that's worth the money. I think I've had 1 success out of 5 on $200+ shoes so far :(

I fully understand what you're saying.

I tried some Diesel ankle boots recently. $600/£300 retail if you don't mind .... I found a seller with the same make/style for $290/£145 and they didn't fit any better.

Over the last 4 months I've bought perhaps 25 pairs of shoes. One style, I've bought 5 identical pairs. [They are easily my favourite, and I wore the first pair I bought months ago this afternoon, in the sunny and people filled streets of Northampton.] I paid £42 each for the first 3 pairs. £25 for the fourth and today, £20 for the fifth pair. Perhaps they were over-priced at their original price of £85, but even at £42 they have been a good buy. I expect to wear these out all through summer (if it arrives) and most evenings when I go out anywhere. I may not need 5 pairs, but I hope I manage to wear several pairs to the limit of their usable life.

I've perhaps 4 pairs of the $40/£20 PU New Look ankle boots, <New Look are a UK "teen" clothe shop> that come with 4" stiletto heel. These are very wearable, with no vices whatsoever. Last week I walked over 4 miles one evening, going from the next town (where my wife dropped me off) back to where I live. No blisters, sore feet, or any other foot problem.

Price is no guide to suitability, or fit.

I also have some KG ankle boots, a style called Saint. <can't find a link> They should have been £85, but I got them for less. They fit, but feel strange because of how they hold themselves to my feet. BUT they look wonderful. Even if they were a size too small, I'd own them. Light cream soles, with 4 1/2" heel and elastic ankle grip. More style in one shoe than I have in my whole body. They'll never be worn.

Price isn't always a guide to style either.

Grazie for the links, but you seem to have a little less difficulty than me finding choices. My feet are a size wider than their length, and combined with insanely high arches even a US 14 rarely fits. I'd surcically transplant my wife's perfectly-shaped size 9's if I could

Know anyone in the US that can make custom lasts (preferably under $1000 per last), ideally in the Bay area? I know TLSB did (at least in theory) have the ability, but I don't fancy flying to London for fittings...

As per previous suggestion, demand provides supply. Unless you and 499 other users have a demand for custom made shoes in your area, you'll have to ship from somewhere else.

From this thread came this company.

Hopefully you are looking for a US Womens size 14/15 shoe? See their sizing chart.

And the style you are looking for: from thread above.

I'd suggest waiting to see how the thread author gets on with his order, before committing to your own? As I am.

I don't know how to help you, but best of luck to you, pal. A US womens size 14-15 is going to be about as scarce as hen's teeth.

There's a place in Chicago called Skyscraper Heels

http://www.skyscraperheels.com

I tried on a pair of size 14W wedges (don't recall how high the wedge was) but I know they had them at some point. You may want to write and inquire.

[eta] the link for page 4 of their shoes has some nice wedge styles on it. I'd definitely contact them. The guy who runs the place is actually very friendly toward male customers.

Superb - that could be just what I have been looking for :) Does anyone know if their sizes run large or small?

At Skyscrapers, the sizes run standard/true (that is, the your men's size + 2 = your women's size). My men's size borders between 12 and 13 and I found that I could look at almost every pair of shoes they carried to determine whether I needed it in a 14 or a 15.
