My new boyfriend commented that I had nice legs and bought me 2 pairs. I didn't think walking in them would be such a big deal, but ohmigoodness lol... he won't go easy on me, either. ( 5 inch heels with 2 inch platform). any tips??? i want to surprize him by not looking like I'm about to mount a horse with every step lol... thanks!!! exhale002@aol.com |

Rep Power: 34 | Platforms? Ewwww. Well, my personal opinion aside, there are a few things to go over.
One. Do they fit well? Can you wiggle your toes a bit? Step one, while sitting in front of the computer, wear them. Do they cut off circulation at all, do your feet hurt just for having them on ?
If the shoes feel good on your feet, then you need to walk. This is easy. For me, it was natural. For balance, move your arms out a bit. Then just take a few small trips at home. Take smaller steps to start.
You can exercise to help get ready, I do this to keep in good heel wearing shape. While bare foot, point your toes. You will be working your ankl;e and your tendons to help get them used to the high heeled position.
After this, all you can do is practice, and ask him for foot rubs.
Once you can wear these shoes well, ask him to buy you some four inch heels without platform. They will provide an excellent test.
As you go, post here, ask us about wearing the shoes. We can help you learn and we can comment on your progress, noting if you need any adjustments. |

Rep Power: 0 | Thank you! Hey, great advice! This is an awesome site. I've always been a tomboy up until now, I'm 22, maybe it's time to grow up lol... I love the way heels make your legs look (even platforms :) but you do have to have great legs to work it! Thanks, I'll keep you posted!! |

Rep Power: 34 | I was a bit tomboyish in my girlhood, so don't worry about it. Now I am a high heeled goddess and write a weekly diary about the shoes I wear. 22 is a good age to start at, and you are going to find a lot of fun wearing heels, so long as you remember to buy the shoes that fit and to take care of your feet.
Keep us updated, and if you have questions, ask! We're here to help, as I keep telling everyone. :) |

My Mood: Rep Power: 25 | Time, all you need is some time. Here are some exercise that don't require you to wear high heels and if you don't have some it will speed up adjusting to them when you do. Calf rises will help strengthen you ankles and improve you balance. Stand with your feet slightly apart and stand on you toes as high as possible. Then lower but don't let your heels touch the floor and repeat. Do three reps to a count between 12 and 15. Also walking around on your tiptoes for 5 to 10 minuets and over time increasing the duration, this will will help as well. Don't over exert your self just give your self some time. Also these can be done any where any time.
If you can, find a pair of shoes with a slightly chunky heel that arond 3" with out a plat. You can wear these during the day for periods of time and this will help you to learn how to walk. Start small, and work your way up.
By the way, Platforms rule!!!! :P

Rep Power: 16 | Techniques I have found helpful:
Rotate your pelvis forward so that the hollow in the small of your back becomes more pronounced;
Lead with your upper thigh muscles, rather than with your lower legs or feet;
Relax the rest of your legs and feet as much as possible, and just let yourself "flow" forward.
When just starting out, it is helpful to practice walking this way on a paved or cemented, slightly uphill surface.
