Copyright on pictures

I`m starting up my own company these days and I need some pics on my footwear part of it.
Do anyone know if pictures at internet stores have a copyright?

I would think for personal use its ok to use others pics, but for business use I might have to be more careful...

However, my home page is:
www.sepsltd.com and www.sepsltd.com/page6.html for the footwear...

For business purposes it is always best to assume that everything is copyrighted and that you need to ask for permission to use the document. If you are re-selling something that someone else has manufactured, then it should be fairly simple to get permission to use pics of the other fellow's product(s).

The copyright position in most countries is very simple: *all pictures have a copyright*, and you can't use them unless some provision says you can. You may be able to use them without getting permission from the copyright holder under fair use provisions in the copyright law of your country - consult a lawyer who knows about the copyright law in your country. Or you can definitely use them if you get permission from the copyright holder.

Disclaimer: I'm not even an English lawyer, let alone a specialist in the law of the Philippines. I merely relay my own summary of the advice given to me over time under English law.

I would guess if anyone notice you are using there`s picture, they will send you an email asking you to remove the pic`s.
But to be on the safe side, I will manufacture some pairs of footwear that can be used as models.

Probably. In most countries, copyright is a civil law issue rather than a criminal one - so it's up to someone to notice and complain. In jurisdictions where there's no notion of punitive damages, they also have to show there's been a loss to them before they can claim damages from you. Both of these limit the damage in "sensible" jurisdictions - i.e. almost anywhere other than the US and UK.

I think this is very good advice. Why take a chance on being shot down legally before you even get started?
