when wearing strappy sandals, your foot slides forward into the toe. Thin straps across the instep do cut into the foot and leave strap marks when you take them off. Even if you fasten the ankle strap tightly around your ankle, to try to keep your feet from moving forward, your feet will slide, anyway.
I have two pair of strappy sandals that I've almost worn out. Both pair have 5" stiletto heels and straps that fasten around the ankle and I can't stop my feet from sliding forward when walking long any distance.
I just live with it. And, wear boots and pumps more than sandals.
