Default What do you do to change your makeup from day to evening?

I am older than a lot of you. I have studies make up as an expression/art form for years and am constantly changing my look.

For day I do 3 eyeshades, mascara, blush & lips.

To go to an evening look - like going out to clubs I add more eyeshadow, more/darker blush & freshen up my lips.

If I'm entertaining I pull out ALL the stops! 5 Eyeshades, false eyelashes, 3 lip colours and 2 blush tones. I just KNOW y'all are gonna CRINGE when I tell you I then set the whole thing with Aqua Net! Doing this I seldom have to touch my face again all night long.

I also get facials monthly and do NOT expose my skin to the sun . . . EVER!

I go home and wash it all off. Find some cute jammies, and I am ready for my evening.

Oh. For going out on the town!

Darker lip stick, darker eye shadow, things like that.

Wait 'till you hit 40! You'll use more and more as time goes by.

I go to re-stock each month! MAC LOVES me!

Or I could use less and less as I stop caring about my appearance. It could go many ways. We'll even see what happens to me by 40.

I am glad MAC likes you, they make some very good eye shadows and I for one like them.

The last time i saw someone wearing that much make-up they wore size 30 shoes a red wig & a flower that squirted water

I usually wear a light eye shadow during the day, mascara & light lip stick. For the evenings however I use an eye shadow that has a hint of sparkle, mascara, a hint of blusher and a shimmer long lasting lippy.

:D

When I was young I thought I'd never wear as much make-up as I do on a daily basis. My day look is well blended and doesn't look extreme.

It all started early on when I went onstage with evening make-up and looked like a corpse.

I purchased "Making Faces" and "Face Foreward" by Kevyn Aucoin (God rest him) and started to develop an effective look for when I am on stage.

NOW when I look in the mirror before I go on stage I look and go "MY-O-MY!". Then I see a photo taken during the performance and I look as I should.

Those megawatt lights drown you out.

I suppose stage make up is a different subject, but the phrase "less is more" often comes to my mind when I view different looks created with make up. The ones that create most impression on me are the subtle changes to accentuate certain good features. I've seen stunning looks created with the minimum of touches.

When I do stand-up a line I use is "I look like I did when I was 25 . . .
it just takes longer."

Another comic who followed me said "Y'know, I went on a date with Anita once . . . I don't remember much of that evening. What I do remember was waking up with a hangover, Heel marks on my backside and my credit card maxed out." :drinking:

rimshot . . .

Less is more. I have cut back a bit on make up over the years. I changed foundations instead of using a concealer stick that didn't quite match my skin tone, and then slathering extra foundation over it to try and hide it.

I look okay in pictures, and that's good enough for me.

besides, I'd like to be a writer, and if I end up on stage, I expect that the audience is there to listen to a reading, or stare at my shoes. I think a coffee house would be a nice setting for such a thing. More natural. And maybe free coffee? I love coffee when it is free... so long as it is good.
