Default Heel Meet 2008 Events Questions

My wife and I will be on the continent at the time of the Heel Meet and would like to attend. We have a couple of questions though.

1. What sort of things do we do at a Heel Meet?

2. Are events planned or it is ad hoc?

3. Are heels de rigeur 24/7? (Not a problem ;), just a question?)

4. I understand Ian from Jean Gaborit will be there, any other manufacturers?

We are not particularly schedule driven people on holiday (we are two Yanks who like that term better), but we are interested in kind of a baseline.

Thanks,

HT

You write like middle management.

Heel meets are usually held throughout the day and you can turn up when you want and leave whenever you want/need to. There's no need to wear heels and there's no need to participate in any excursions e.g. Torture Garden or shopping. You can just chill at the pub and enjoy other people's company.

Most of all, we're all normal people. Honest!

Heeltoe; you and your wife are most welcome to the heel meet.

As HeelD said the meet itself can be rather casual and it will probably start around noon and break up early evening. But you can come and go as you wish. I do recommend to come when it starts though cuz it is always harder to join when everybody already knows eachother and are having a good time. (Plus the food buffee might be empty then.....)

Ian from Jean Gaborit will be there and we are working on other happenings too. See the thread about the heel meet for further details. The venue will most certainly be a pub, where we are the only guests, so a beer and some food comes along too.

Often people arrives a day or two in advance to do some touristing and then we try to have some dinner together in the evenings, and maybe also do some stuff together during the days. (Last year a couple of us went to Camden Town for some hours to do some shopping.) This is very optional but it is a good way to make new friends in a relaxed atmosphere.

Saturday evening there for sure will be a dinnerparty for the ones interested and most probably Friday evening too. Saturday night some of us will visit Torture Garden for a "grand finale" of the heel meet week-end.

Don't hesitate to PM me if you want to.

c ya in London!!

We will be holding our private party at The Miller from 10:30-17:00. You will likely show up and enjoy a coffee, or a beer, and relax in one of the various lounge chairs while you nibble on some delicious appetizers that The Miller serves. And you will meet new people who share your interest in shoes. Conversation will flow and with some, you will find a special connection beyond the world of shoes, with others, you will find less of a connection...just at like any other cocktail party you have attended.

A few people might go shoe shopping together, but not until they first get to know each other a bit.

My recommendation is that you come early, around 10:30-12:00 when the bulk of attendees will all be under one roof at one time.

A comprehensive overview is Here

We intend to have a schedule, but you are free to follow or not follow it as you wish. Last year, someone from hhplace.org was always present at The Miller from 10:30-17:00, which is how we decided on the times for the 2008 meet.

Heels are not mandatory. I would recommend that you bring a change of shoes though...Some past attendees did so because they didn't feel comfortable wearing their heels in public yet. Others have done so because they weren't adept at balancing in heels on the streets. Whatever your reason may be, having the option to choose is nice.

We are working on getting additional vendors present. Right now, we can guarantee that we will have an hhplace.org flea market table through which attendees can swap or sell their vintage wear.

The general baseline is that someone from hhplace.org will always be present at The Miller from 10:30-17:00. Alot of people just like to stay at The Miller and talk and make friends.

I sincerely look forward to meeting you and your wife. iloveboots will be there with his wife...so you and your wife will have a chance to meet another couple with similar heel interests. I'm sure a few other couples will be present as well.

Thumbs up Re: Heel Meet 2008 Events Questions

Hi HeelToe at150,
We would enjoy meeting you and your wife at the 2008 Annual Heel Meet. We will be arriving a few days early on the 13th and staying one week as we will get out and about around town to see sites etc. The bulk of us are staying at the Thistle Euston which is very central to everything, easy walking distance to Oxford St shopping, Camden Town, and one block from the Euston Tube Station and Train Station. See the "real life meetings" thread "2008 Annual Heel Meet Hotel Info".
As Admirer5577 and Kneehighs have mentioned there will be some planned events/meals etc. available on Thursday/Friday/Saturday night/Sunday if you'd like to attend. We found that last year they were a blast and we developed some really great new friendships by just "hanging out" together. All of us staying at one hotel also helps promote this opportunity for those who want to enjoy new friends and share heel experiences out and about.
So, start planning, book your flights/hotels and we'll see you in London mate,
david & cathy

Yes as some of the others have said, there are events and excursions planned but there is no way that any of these are compulsory - if you just want to hang out in the Miller and chat then you can do that too...
