Is there an ideal heel height -
for an individual or their feet
for an outpit
for an occasion
or is it a function of all these and other factors.
I often wonder when we are trying to accustom to higher heel heights, might the ideal be exceeded? Any comments?

Just use some common sense. There are situations where you obviously want to conceder height. Also the other would be how well adjusted you are to a higher heel. You don't want to walk around like a duck!!!

The choice of heel heights is very subjective and it depends on individual. I personally feel that a young school girl at the age of say... 12 onwards can start wearing heels of 2 inches and slowly working their way up. Stiletto for a start should be worn moderately.

I have worked my way to 4 - 5 inches and I am quite comfortable with that. Another factor would be the shoe size. If you have small feet, there would be restrictions to the max heel height.

About 100mm I find to be a very walkable heel which is nice for looks and feel too. Anything less than 80mm I don't feel so it's not a proper heel for me. Anything more than 120mm affects my walk too much which I don't want to do, so I'd say 100+/-20mm is fine. I should add I'm a size 40/41 shoe size.

The ideal heel height is what you can comfortably walk in without causing distress to your feet.
In my case between 3" and 4", any higher and I reduce the length of time that I can wear them to a few hours.

I'd say for long walks (like shopping trips e.g.) 3,5-4" would be the ideal hight for me.

I think I can easily move without affecting my way of walking (except for the steps getting smaller) up to 5,5" and 6" if they are stilettos. (For >= 5" heels I find stilettos easier to walk in the than block/blade heels.)

Yes Jeff, I still remember how well you walked on those 6-inch heels when we had our little competition at Xaphod's place. Anything above 5-inch true lift is more than challenging for me but I don't care.

It really depends....usually 4" for most of the time (without platforms), but sometimes I can do 5" stils for a short period.

If it's in plats, then I like the 5" heel w/1.5" rise, or if I'm feeling really daring, I can do the 6" stiletto heel boot with 1.75" front rise - but those I can't wear for quite as long.

There's no one hard, fast and true answer in this. Everyone is giving a different opinion.

I think I am seeing four inches as part of a consensus, however. So maybe four inches is a good average for the do almost anything heel? I certainly can do more in four inch heels than five right now, even if I do wear five inch stilettos for work every day.

Four is the answer.

For me never less than 4 inches. My preferred height is 5 to 5˝ inches.
