Default Hidden platforms
I think the 0.5 inch hidden platform is one of the greatest advances in heel tech in the past few decades. It combines stability with sexy. The whole profile of the shoe or boot is subtly changed and it catches your eye but your are not immediately certain why.

I love them to wear and see worn. My wife likes that ever so slight decrease in angle in a 5" heel that she gets with the hidden platform. As a result she wears heels now more that ever. I AM a lucky boy.

I agree with you that the look of the hidden platform is different and sexy looking and I think it is maybe better in appearance than that of the exposed platform. And like you say it gives a lesser height in an already high looking heel angle.
